The STR43xxx is a low cost Rack and pinion system, that offers 4" of radial travel (R) and 360°
rotation (Theta) in a thin (25mm thick) stage. The rotary axis is belt driven. The stepper motors provide for no servo jitter while still maintaining a positive return
force at position. The stage has a maximum speed of 100mm/sec. The speed can be controlled via the USB (COM Port). The stage easily attaches to most microscopes with its
standard circular dovetail mount, and has adjustable stage centering.. The rotary table has a 1/8"
center pin (concentric to .0003") for accurate sample mounting. The Theta control is capable of locating
a desired (R, theta) point, or of continuous rotation. The R-Axis is repeatable to 20um (5um unidir) with
submicron resolution. The unit also provides control of the microscope Z-axis with a motor drive which
easily attaches to most microscopes and has up to 0.05um resolution. The stage system comes with our standard RTZ controller. There are two configurations of the
controller. A desk top unit with built in joystick and an under the desk unit with remote joystick. Either
controller provides precise control of the R, Theta axis speed through an exceptionally smooth joystick. The speed is proportional to joystick
deflection providing velocities from as slow as single steps to full traverse speed. A rotary knob
provides variable speed theta control, from single steps to full traverse speed, with "turbo" at the
extremes for quick traverse. Optional remote z-axis focus is provided via a focusing knob on the controller. The
unit also provides three user-selectable sensitivities for the joystick, theta control and Z-knob for
added adaptability. The unit can be controlled manually or by the user's external computer vis standard
USB (COM Port) commands. R, theta and Z coordinates are displayed locally on the controller's LED display. These
coordinates are also available via USB (COM Port). The stage STR43xxx is an economical unit that works well in a wide
range of applications. Custom versions and modifications can be made.
